Critique Disclaimer:
I truly hope that if I critique something of yours I do not offend you. I usually leave out what I enjoyed in your works, and that is because I believe strongly against sugar coating reviews. However, as bunniangel so kindly pointed out, a critique is not all about everything you do wrong. I try to add in what I like as well, though sometimes I forget. Excuse the gap when that happens ;p
My critiques (mainly of the prose persuasion) typically cover spelling/grammar, with a slight mention of lack of emotion or plot holes.
If I do offend you, please send me a note and I'll remember not to visit your site again. Or, you could get even and review my stuff </plug>
It's been a fun ride, but I really don't feel like I fit in here well. I hardly know anyone, and the one person I do know and had gotten like left a while ago.
When she left, I decided I'd ride this out a little longer and see how things go, but with an average of three comments per month on here (on my dA I get easily 50 a month)- which is partially due to my inactivity on this site- I decided it would save my computer one more cookies and few temp. pages if I just left the site.
That sort of sounds selfish of me in retrospect; but art is meant to be viewed. It is pretty clear to me that prose is somewhat of a minority on this site, with a new prose being submitted in the sci-fi genre nearly every two days.
I believe it was actually someone on this site who said "Once you see a piece of art, you can't take back what you saw. However, you can start to read a paragraph of a story, say 'screw this' and leave it much easier." I see truth in that; and I believe a lot of other people do as well.
I value my work very seriously, and judging by the way I have been treated while giving critiques or recieving critiques, (Comments like 'I wrote this in only two minutes, don't give me crap about forgetting a period. I don't care' or 'sort of a weird ending, but I like it.' with a later note saying they don't know what they meant by a weird ending.)
I may be over-reacting to all of this, but I know many people on dA who review my work quite a bit better than anyone I've met on here. For those of you who did leave me wonderful critiques (few and far between, they are), thank you very much.
i like your profile but i have a slightly different view on it...i dont think putting what you enjoyed about the works as sugar coating...i believe that a balaced critique tells fully what the person thinks is bad...and good so that the person knows that while you are pointing out flaws in the works that the actually core WORK is actually good.
yes I see what you mean...there in lies the difference between a bitch-fest (excuse my french) and a good critique. I will go through and edit my profile
